Magento 1.4 Product Prices Including Tax Not Working
This one had me scratching my head for a very long time, and it’s those problems that are so easy to fix which are sometimes the worst because you’ve been missing something all along…
My store needed to have its prices inclusive of tax, so for example if I had a product that costs £10 (including tax) I would enter it as costing £10 in the admin. Magento would then calculate the tax as whatever I have tax set as (e.g 20% – £2). Simple enough right? Simply set up your tax class and then go to System > Configuration > Tax > Calculation Settings and change your Catalog Prices to ‘Including Tax’.
However the tax was still being excluded. Even changing the setting to ‘Excluding Tax’ made no difference. Well, if you’ve unkowingly installed a version of Magento with some of its settings still set to the default American configuration, you’re gonna have problems..
This is the one that can catch you out! Go to:
System > Configuration > Sales > Shipping Settings > Origin
… and make sure you set it to your default shipping Origin. Mine was from US to UK. Now Magento’s tax rules will actually work – always helpful eh?
